Here is some advice for the new year(1). I found this quote on several ‘top computer science quote’ web sites. It goes like this;
If you think your management doesn’t know what it’s doing or that your organisation turns out low-quality software crap that embarrasses you, then leave.
Edward Yourdon
If you’re not happy where you are and you don’t think you can change it for the better than seek some greener pastures. Obviously, no where is going to be perfect. If it was that great then they wouldn’t pay you to be there, but if it is really driving you nuts then get out.
I’m facing this dilema. I perform code reviews and look at the design (ha!) and quality (ha!) of the software and I think “Please please please. I hope this never gets associated with me.” So that leaves me with two options;
- Stay and try to change things for the better
- Find somewhere else
I can honestly say that I’ve given the first one my all. I have really tried to make things better, so that leaves me with the second.
(1) A bit late I know, ironically one of New Years Resolutions was to be on time…
